Tour overview

The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic paths to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) due to its combination of solitude, diverse landscapes, and superb acclimatization opportunities. Attracting roughly 8% of climbers, this route is gaining popularity because of its longer, uncrowded trail to the beautiful vistas, making it a superb option for budget travelers looking to get an authentic trekking experience. Spanning approximately 70 km round trip from Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) to Uhuru Peak, the Lemosho Route passes through five ecological zones: vibrant birdfilled montane rainforest brimming with colobus monkeys, heath and moorland with giant groundsels and heathers, panoramic ridges like the Barranco Wall, stark alpine desert, and the Arctic summit zone with glaciers and snowfields. The suggested duration is an 8-day itinerary; this is best for acclimatization and has an 80-92% summit success rate, significantly higher than shorter routes like the 5-day Marangu (50-60%).
