Tour overview
The Machame Route, known popularly as the "Whiskey Route," is one of the most picturesque ways to attempt the summation of Mount Kilimanjaro, which is the highest peak of Africa, standing tall at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). This route is well known for its incredible, breathtaking views, unique ecosystems, and well-organized acclimatization profile, earning nearly 45% of Kilimanjaro climbers. This makes it a go-to route for travelers who want to have an affordable yet challenging adventure. The Machame Route extends approximately 62 km for a round trip from Machame Gate (1,800 meters) to Uhuru Peak. The route covers five ecological zones: tropical rainforests containing vibrant birds and monkeys, heath and moorland adorned with giant groundsel, the Barranco Wall’s rocky ridges providing spectacular views, alpine deserts, and the arctic summit zone of glaciers with snowfields. Although the 6-day itinerary is compressed, it is best better-balanced ascent for fit climbers, but it offers less acclimatizing time than the 7-day version, resulting in a summit success rate of 44-60%, versus 85-90% for the longer option.

Look forward to a scenic hot lunch on the climb with Table Mountain National Park stretching at altitude's stark beauty. Spend the rest of your brief break resting and gear prepping, which involves the Barafu Camp's last summit heading rest. Rest after a light early supper and sleep in your basic tent for a few hours, allowing you to feel refreshed for the midnight hike to Uhuru Peak.
